The Dream Room, which is the 11th of its kind in the country, is part of an initiative by the Reach for a Dream Foundation which creates safe spaces for hospitalised children and their families to escape the harsh realities of serious illness, even if just for a moment. The upgrade saw a refurbishment of one of the rooms in the paediatric oncology ward of the hospital.

Chief Executive Officer of Reach for a Dream, Julia Sotirianakos says: “We create these oases and spaces for our children to forget that they are actually in a hospital. We thank our sponsor, MultiChoice, for the beautiful partnership we have and for continuing to share our Reach for a Dream message across their DStv platforms.”

“We are so proud to be associated with the Reach for a Dream Foundation,” says Fahmeeda Cassim Surtee, Chief Executive Officer of DStv Media Sales. “It is truly heart-warming for us that we can play a small part in this tremendous initiative which will go some way towards brightening the days of seriously ill children who come to this hospital.”

The Reach for a Dream Foundation continues to give hope to children fighting life-threatening illnesses through the fulfilment of their dreams and by making their national projects available to as many children as they can. Their goal is ultimately to build 30 Dream Rooms in hospitals providing critical care to children around the country in celebration of their 30th anniversary.

“Our business is all about creating magic; creating spaces where people can imagine and live their dreams,” says Reggy Moalusi: Executive Head of Corporate Affairs for MultiChoice South Africa. “It is an incredible opportunity to be able to translate this magic into something that will benefit children who have life-threatening illnesses and their families who are spending a considerable amount of time at the hospital.”
