For Mainala Silondwa, an aspiring filmmaker from Kabwe, Zambia, “intentionality” makes a good film. Citing South African director Darren Roodt’s films like “Winnie”, “Yesterday” and “Sarafina” as some of her favourites, the 22-year-old Kabwe born storyteller explains, “A good film achieves and surpasses what it set out to do. Whether to challenge people, inspire them or make them laugh, it has a good story that evokes the intended reaction and communicates the intended message.” An avid fan of comic and TV host Trevor Noah and performing arts, Mainala hopes that the Multichoice Talent Factory will provide her with the space to be “immersed in an environment that’s conducive for creating and exposure to people I might not have otherwise had access to”.

Gearing up for the film and TV industry, the emerging creative says,  “It’s a hope of mine to share my knowledge and experience of filmmaking with other people, while stirring a passion for it within them. I reckon when passion is genuine and you’re empowered with knowledge as well as a growth mindset, you can create the means.”
