Message from General Manager of MultiChoice Angola, Eduardo Continentino
Since 1998, MultiChoice Angola has been investing in the people, communities and businesses of Angola. Today the business has branches in Luanda, Sumbe, Benguela, Huambo, Lubango, Malange, Kuito, Saurimo, Uíge, Luena, Menongue and Ondjiva. Helping our people to bring the power of entertainment to our customers are 330 agents who are present in each of the country’s 18 provinces, plus in excess of 130 accredited installers. Giving the best possible service to our customers means that MultiChoice Angola has a considerable economic impact. The direct impact is estimated at some US$8.1 million with a significantly larger multiplier effect.
MultiChoice Angola has invested millions of US dollars in local production infrastructure which is increasingly being used to make great stories here in Angola and to share these with audiences across the country and further afield. Channels like Banda TV, Palanca TV, Record, Telemundo and Mundo Fox offer Africa’s best Portuguese-language programming around the clock.
Such is the popularity of locally-produced entertainment that from 2014 to 2016 the Angolan edition of Big Brother broke world-wide viewership records for the franchise, and The Voice Angola was a massive hit and a first for Africa. Utilising the DStv platform, two free-to-air domestic channels reach millions of Angolans who would otherwise not be able to access them.
As well as spending tens of thousands of US dollars on corporate social investments, we enrich the youth of Angola through the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards, an annual poster-and-essay competition which ignites interest in science, especially satellite technology, by giving the continent’s youngsters the chance to win once-in-a-lifetime prizes. MultiChoice Angola has received more than 1 300 entries for the DStv Eutelsat Star Awards since 2012.
